The GreenStones team are having a look back at Summer 2023 and all the fun events we have taken part in.
Summer 2023 has been full of sporting competitions, with the added fun of team sweepstakes for the Women’s FIFA World Cup and the ongoing Rugby World Cup tournament. To make the sweepstakes fair and the competitions interesting we had a mixture of prize categories, for example, the earliest red card and the fastest goal conceded in the group stages. A couple of team members also got together for the Burghley Horse Trials and we enjoyed a meal to celebrate Jordan becoming ACCA qualified.
One of the highlights of the Summer was a dinner we celebrated back in June, called ‘Dîner en Blanc’.
If you have never heard of Dîner en Blanc, do not worry we can explain.
It became a worldwide event which involves friends and loved ones dressing in white and enjoying dinner together outside, or in a public space. The concept was founded by a Frenchman named François Pasquier in 1988. His goal was to make an elegant outdoor dining experience for his close friends. The reason he requested everyone to wear the same colour was so they could easily find each other.
Traditionally members are requested to bring a number of items, such as:
- A table and chair (preferably a white chair).
- A white tablecloth and napkins.
- Cutlery and glassware.
- Wine or Champagne (we purchased some 0% bubbly for our event).
However for our evening team members only needed to bring themselves.
Hosting fun events like this is a wonderful way to encourage communication and collaboration between team members. Although this was dinner took place after work, team members still had something fun to look forward too and it made for some great memories.
Here are some fun facts about Dîner en Blanc / Dinner in White:
- In 2012 Singapore was the first Asian city to host a Dîner en Blanc.
- A record number of 15,000 people attended the 25th anniversary in Paris in 2013.
