January Goal Setting

At this time of year many people start to think about the year ahead, and make plans accordingly.  After all, if you don’t have goals, whether personal or for your business, how do you know when you have succeeded.

When setting your goals, you should make them SMART:-

Specific

Measureable

Attainable

Realistic

Timely

The last one is an interesting one.  How long should you give yourself to achieve your goals?  Only you will know the answer to that.

As we all know, New Year’s resolutions are often broken early.  One of the best ways to make sure you keep on track is to share your goals with someone and ask them to hold you to account.  That person could be a friend, relative, business partner, or your accountant.  They can then hold you to account, and (politely) nag you if you are not working towards your goals.  Diarise regular conversations with that person so that progress can be discussed and action plans made as necessary.
