At GreenStones we love to celebrate different festivities and promote different events, just like World Book Day. Reading is especially important and here at GreenStones we love to encourage that skill!
When a new team member joins our team, we provide them with our ‘recommended reading’ suggestions. The books we recommend to new team members display the atmosphere and ethos we wish to promote within the GreenStones team, as well as some business tips and tricks.
Published Author…
As some of you may know, Simon Chaplin, GreenStones Director, has gone one step further and published two of his own books – 7 Savvy Stories and Banish the Banish the Bottleneck.
Banish the Bottleneck was released in 2021 and is aimed at accountancy practices looking to grow and perfect their teams.
Team Development…
Each month our team members are asked to complete a number of development activities, from learning new systems to reading influential books. These activities help our team grow and learn new skills, which inevitably helps improve efficiency and productivity.
Some of the books that have helped our team grow professionally or personally include:-
- The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris has taught Abbie techniques to deal with stress, as well as improve positivity and confidence. It has also made Abbie more mindful.
- After reading Five-Minute Superheroes Stories (Lego DC Super Heroes) Ched has learned about the benefits of teamwork, asking for help when you’re not sure how to proceed, stretching before exercise, and that it doesn’t matter who is faster, Superman or Flash; as long as they have fun and help people when they can!
- Life, on the Line by Grant Achatz and Nick Kokonas highlighted to Leanne the importance of a strong work ethic, the effort and enjoyment of opening your own business and the positives of having a supportive team, or business partner.
If you don’t have team development activities at your workplace, why not start implementing them?
The Importance of Reading…
To highlight the importance of reading, we have generated the following list of key benefits:-
- Improves our mental muscles (e.g. memory)
- Broadens our vocabulary and writing ability
- Expands our knowledge
- Helps with mental health and reduces stress
- Enhances our imagination
