The end of the year is fast approaching, and it is only natural to take a moment to look back and evaluate your business’s progress in 2024.
Spending time looking into what has and hasn’t successfully worked can be extremely beneficial for your business. The data you gather from your evaluation can be used to generate objectives for the next year.
Setting Objectives
Where to start?
Well, the point of setting objectives is planning goals and identifying how your organisation can meet them in a realistic timeframe.
SMART is a helpful acronym which can be used to create effective goal-setting techniques.
There can be many different goals you can set for your company, whether that be implementing new systems such as data management strategies, measuring customer experiences, or focusing on growing your online platform. The more specific you are with your goals, the higher the chance you have of achieving them.
Your objectives and goals are likely to change over time, that’s to be expected – however, if you don’t know what you want to achieve, you won’t know what results to measure and how to analyse them.
Your goals can be ambitious, however, if you’re following the SMART acronym, you will need to bear in mind if your goal is actually reachable in the time frame you want. Don’t forget that creating goals that align with your company’s values and pillars is extremely important.

Evaluation
Evaluating your business is a proactive way of finding ways to implement new ideas and gain insight into what’s worked well and what hasn’t. It’s important not only to look at the improvements but also to celebrate the achievements of your business (however small).
For large firms, it may be helpful to take reviews from a handful of team members in different roles throughout the business or perhaps get them to complete a survey to gather internal feedback and ideas. By inviting team members throughout your business to contribute ideas, you will gather insight from different perspectives.
Evaluating means setting objectives for the next year. It’s important to be realistic and include measurable key performance indicators (KPIs). Providing tangible metrics to your team can help them stay focused, motivated and inevitably help provide a clear framework for the future. Obtaining a data-driven approach ensures that your strategic objectives are not just dream-like aspirations but achievable targets you can reach.
Being a business owner can be challenging, however, the GreenStones team are always here to help inspire, challenge and support you and your business goals.
