You might not know but Simon has been Chairperson of the local Young Enterprise board for just over a year now. Young Enterprise is a charity that helps teams of young people (mainly between 15 -16) learn about the world of business and how to make money. Now he has his feet firmly under the table and understands the processes much better, he’s on the lookout for people to help.
The main volunteers the board needs are business advisors. Business advisors go into the school up to once a fortnight for an hour and help their team establish and run their business. It is incredibly rewarding as you get to see the individuals develop and learn new skills. You might even end up with the winning team! Other benefits include being able to develop your own skills or those of your team (in a safe environment) and get to know the students in case you have a job opportunity for one of them. Simon says “If we had space we’d have employed several who went through last year’s program”.
If you think you might like to get involved as a business advisor (or a sponsor – they’re always looking for money!) just email simon@greenstones.co.uk and he’ll get in touch.
