With effect from 9 August 2011 HMRC’s bank accounts have changed. It will no longer be possible to use the Bank of England accounts and therefore any payments directed to the Bank of England accounts after this date will be rejected automatically by the banking system and returned to your bank.
If your tax payment does not reach the correct account by the payment due date you are at risk of incurring late payment penalties and interest Therefore it is important to double check that you are using the correct account details to ensure that you are not at danger of delaying your payments. Please note that there are different account numbers / sort codes depending on the tax that you are paying (VAT, self assessment, PAYE).
If you would like details of the correct bank account details you can always use the HMRC website http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/payinghmrc or alternatively you can give us a call on 01733 371180.
