This is a quick reminder that from 1 October 2013 the national minimum wage is increasing. You will now need to make sure that you pay your employees at least the following hourly rates:-
21 and over £6.31
18 to 20 £5.03
Under 18 £3.72
Apprentice (under 19) £2.68
Workers are entitled to the minimum wage if they are part-time, casual labourers, agency workers, apprentices, agricultural workers, trainees or workers on probation, foreign workers, and disabled workers. Contracts for payments below the minimum wage are not legally binding and it is a criminal offence for employers not to pay someone the minimum wage that is entitled to it. There are some workers (namely company directors, who do not need to be paid the minimum wage) and further guidance is available on the exceptions.
If you are an employer and you would like further guidance on the minimum wage subject please give one of us a call on 01733 371180 and we will be happy to help.
