We can’t wait for the Olympics and some team members have already signed up as voluntaries. However, the Times reports that businesses need to start planning for 2012, not only for staff absenteeism, but for potential problems in the supply chain.
One casualty already is the Glastonbury Festival. Michael Eavis has cancelled the event in 2012 because of the shortage of Police and Portaloos outside London, created by the Olympics and Paralympics.
The article says the organisers will need around 900,000 pieces of equipment and 10,000 security guards. Some of the more unusual items include 800 Water Polo Balls and 8400 Shuttlecocks. So despite the problems with logistics, there could be plenty of opportunities for some businesses.
